They`re called "flying foxes" here and every evening around 7pm they fly over the city of #Udaipur like an insect-eating river for more than 15 minutes. I`ve only seen two mosquitoes in five days.

ACT, day 12. Marpha to Larjung (2,560 m). Just south of Marpha another detour heads down the eastern bank from the Tibetan settlement around Chhairo Gompa to Chimang, which offers superb views of Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), the world’s sixth largest mountain. Back on the west bank, Tukuche (2,580 m) is one of the valley’s most important Thakali villages and once was a depot and customs spot for salt traders from Tibet. Several grand houses and gompas hark back to a more prosperous past. The road continues to Khobang and Larjung, past good views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri North (7,061 m). I’d like to share some sad news, especially for my friends who have been with me on one of the many trips I’ve led to the Himalayan mountains of Nepal, with restorationworksinternational , to work on the restoration of the century’s old Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Chairro gompa.
The beautiful neighboring village of Tukche was recently devastated by unprecedented monsoon rains. This picture shows Lama Sashi and myself in front of Sashi’s ancestral home in Tukche, several years ago.
